Research by École Universitaire Internationale receives first prize at the world conference on sexual violence held in Orlando – USA.
The conference was attended by 4000 doctors, nurses, police officers, military personnel and lawyers from all over the world. Over the three days of the conference, 18-19-20 April 2017, the 13 research projects selected from among the thousands that reach the federal government body that deals with violence and sexual violence every year were presented.
The research that receives first prize is directed by Dr. Sabrina Magris, president of École Universitaire Internationale, and carried out with the researchers Francesca Fanti and Martina Grassi, and with contributions from Teresa Pavone, Febronia Riggio and Monica Zanzarella. The focus of the research is DFSA UNWITTING VICTIMS: EMERGING SOLUTIONS AND PROTOCOL CORRELATED TO SOCIO-CULTURAL BIAS
The research, recognised as innovative, centres on the identification of the victims of rape drugs and concentrates on 5 points that allow doctors and investigators to recognise, and therefore help, the victims of this kind of violence: men, women or children, since very often paedophiles too use this substance to produce child pornography material with minors, even very young ones. Cases and seizures of rape drugs are an everyday occurrence in Italy as well. The recognition obtained in Orlando (USA) makes the small Italian organisation the world centre of research excellence in DFSA (rape drugs). The Italian women have already been offered numerous collaborations with US organisations in these very days, even though the researchers have expressed their wish to continue their work in Italy.
This is an important recognition at world level of Italian research carried out in Italy. The research, which will be published in the coming weeks by the American organising body, has identified 5 points which -beyond the rape drug- may also prove useful for trials of treatments linked to difficulties in neuronal transmission.
The 5 main points of the research: At the medical and investigative level, the recognition of certain postural pains that make it possible to identify the unwitting victims of the substance, thus allowing investigations to be opened. The discovery of the direct increase in cortisol in the subjects to whom the substance is given. The possibility and the methodology for bringing back the information/memory in the retrograde amnesia caused by the substance have been identified. A protocol has been drawn up that will be available to medical and police personnel for use in cases of DFSA. Work is under way on the reconstruction of the neuronal parts that are damaged by the drug.
The highest recognition given by the world scientific community specialising in sexual violence launches and establishes École Universitaire Internationale as a research Institute of world excellence.
